Essentials for Samsung Series 7 Slate
Jeremy Thake
Body: So I have the Samsung Series 7 Slate for a while now, thanks to being giving it by Microsoft at the BUILD conference back in September. I actually immediately made it my production workstation…yep even though it is running Windows 8 Developer Preview! I absolute love the form factor of this device and have used various tablets in the past including a Fujitsu T5010 back in 2008. The battery wasn’t great on that and it was a little too heavy to carry and scribble on with the stylus. This [read].

Body: So I have the Samsung Series 7 Slate for a while now, thanks to being giving it by Microsoft at the BUILD conference back in September. I actually immediately made it my production workstation…yep even though it is running Windows 8 Developer Preview! It’s great to see all the Sales VP’s who were awarded them at the Management Summit at beginning of January for hitting their figure using them. CloudShare for proof of concepts
Jeremy Thake
Body: I’ve been working with CloudShare for a while now and I guess for me the biggest bonus has been not having to lug a stupidly oversized laptop with me to customer meetings and conferences to do demonstrations from. The second benefit is how stupidly quick you can have environments up and running. Chris Riley, Product Manager and Evangelist at CloudShare pointed out to me that there is a “SharePoint Showcase” where you can simply click on a link and it’ll “clone”/”share” a co [read].

Happy New Year and welcome to 2012! Here’s my plan…
Jeremy Thake
Body: First day back at AvePoint today, gently getting back into work mode by working from home…my new home as I moved in yesterday and waiting for Verizon guys to install very important internet connection and cable television!   I’ve really enjoyed my time in New York since moving here in April 2010 to work for AvePoint. I’ve seen a lot of the states travelling to meet customers and attending conferences.   2012 will see me focus on public speaking at SharePoint community events evange [read].

Windows Slate OS upgrade for me! #bldwin
Jeremy Thake
Body: I’ve been using a ASUS eee Slate since around June this year and absolutely love it on Windows 7 primarily replacing my iPad as a note taking tool via OneNote 2010. The deficiencies of the device were really more to do with the Operating System than the hardware itself as the eee Slate is packed with quad core i5, 4Gb RAM and 64Gb SSD to name the core specs. At the BUILD conference we were lucky enough to be given new Samsung developer preview Windows 8 slates. The form factor is slightl [read].

My top SharePoint blogs in last 30 days
Jeremy Thake
Body: It’s been a while since I posted this out. this is data from Google Reader. I subscribe to about 1200 subscriptions and try to read everything that comes through. It’s a great way to keep on the pulse of what is going on out there and often inspires my writing. I’m hoping in future, when I “Share” or “star” or “like” (seem to pretty much be same thing to me ) that it’ll integrate deeper with G+. Google playing catch up in Social World

Body: I’ve been a huge consumer of online social communities for years now as a way of collaborating with like minded technical brains and catching up with friends and family. Google+ was released in private beta and I couldn’t resist seeing what they have tried to accomplish with it. DWTF: CRM Dynamics Online support
Jeremy Thake
Body: IT support guys have a rough time as they are expected to know everything. I was having a problem with configuring Microsoft Dynamics CRM add-in for Outlook 2010 on my Windows 7 machine. It worked fine on my laptop, but got connection errors on my shiny new Slate. The support guy had me on the phone uninstalling stuff, repairing stuff so I asked for all the steps which he provided me rather than waiting on the phone.   In the end after following all he had, it still didn’t fix it and th [read].

SharePoint 2010 Developer Do’s and Don’ts…and what NYC are generally doing
Jeremy Thake
Body: Last night I presented at the New York Developer SharePoint User Group in Manhattan. We had a great turn out for my session on “Developer Do’s and Don’ts”, the room was full and people were standing at the back (guessing 60-70)! Thanks to Kathryn Birstein for organizing the event and for Gig Werks for sponsoring the pizzas and drinks!   I covered off a raft of things that I’ve seen in the field with SharePoint development.   One thing that always shocks me is the amount of peo [read].

Microsoft missed an opportunity at TechEd 2011 with SharePoint
Jeremy Thake
Body: I was absolutely amazed by the shear scale of Microsoft TechEd 2011 North America this year with 10,000 attendees! I have been a few TechEd’s in Australia which get to around 4,000 attendees, but this really does make the Australian one look small. I have had time to reflect a little bit on this conference and believe that Microsoft’s SharePoint Product Team really did miss a great opportunity to educate and raise awareness to the attendees at this event. Why I have an iPad
Jeremy Thake
Body: I have been getting this question A LOT and always promised a blog post…so here it is. I have had an iPad since it was originally released in US, thanks to Mark Miller queuing for me at the Apple Store in New York and sending it to me in Perth My primary original reason for purchasing it was to replace my Fujitsu T5010 Windows 7 tablet PC as it is smaller and lighter. Backwards in coming forwards…the US EAD Form!
Jeremy Thake
Body: We’ve now been here for a few weeks, moving into our beautiful 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan on the 18th April. Luckily we didn’t need Social Security numbers to secure our place, as I only just got that last Thursday! Sadly I couldn’t get paid until I had my Social Security number, so the credit cards have taken a hammering. How to pick which apartment in Manhattan
Jeremy Thake
So this afternoon, we've been taken around Manhattan's Chelsea district by the broker we selected from Australia before we arrived. Essentially we've spent the last few weeks looking at listings to find the price range, floor plans and location we liked. Today we visited 7 different locations that we liked. By the end of it at 18:00 I'd completely lost track of which place was which! Decisions have to be made quick in Manhattan as places don't stay available for long.   TIP #1 Ask if you can ta [read].

So with the message from Paul Andrew on the Sneak Peek webcast to start using VSeWSS now so that you will be familiar with Visual Studio 2010 tools, I started to take a look at VSeWSS 1.3 CTP (March not Feb). It is truly painful to work with compared to WSPBuilder and STSDev. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the SharePointDevWiki already. It's made great progress since being launched with over 4000 page views and just under 200 page edits already! Check out the activity for yourself here! Where to draw the line between SharePoint Customisation and SharePoint Development
Jeremy Thake
I was recently on a client site where they have spent the best part of a year going through the process of making the decision and getting approval to purchase Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Enterprise Edition. Part of that presales process actually included attending one of my discussions on Enterprise 2.0 along the lines of "Facebook for the Enterprise" with a 15 minute segment at the end that demonstrated what MOSS 2007 had out of the box that could be used. TypeMock Isolator for SharePoint Announced

Testing SharePoint was always an issue, because SharePoint has number of classes that are sealed and/or does not have public constructors. SharePoint's API consists heavily of sealed classes and classes with internal constructors. None of existed unit-testing frameworks provided ability to mock such classes.
