Finally joined Twitter
Paul Papanek Stork Many people know that I've avoided joining Twitter for a long time. But I finally got an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm here at the New Zealand Community SharePoint conference and was on an expert's panel earlier today with Paul Culmsee, Chandima Kulathilake, Joel Oleson, and Steve Smith. Before the questioning started Joel was giving me a hard time because I was the only panelist not on Twitter. Then he gave me a choice. Renewed as an MVP!
Paul Papanek Stork I'm in New Zealand this week speaking at the first New Zealand SharePoint Community Conference. Since they are on the other side of the international date line it means that yesterday was July 1st here, but I had to wait until July 2nd (July 1st in North America) to find out whether I was re-awarded or not. I was on pins and needles all day long waiting for my renewal email. I had to keep telling myself it wasn't really July 1st yet.
Anyway, the good news is that I have received an MVP [read]. Posted: Wed, Jul 1st '09 |
Hot Fix for SP2 available!
Paul Papanek Stork Occasionally when you install Service Pack 2 on a MOSS installation it will reset the license code so that SharePoint thinks it is an evaluation copy that will expire in 180 days. It doesn't actually break any functionality, at least not until the 180 days is up. But it can be a bit disconcerting if you look at the licensing. You can read more about the problem in the following KnowledgeBase article:

Speaking at the New Zealand Community SharePoint Conference 2009
Paul Papanek Stork
I'll be traveling halfway around the world next week to speak at the New Zealand Community SharePoint Conference in Wellington, New Zealand. I'm really looking forward to the trip, even if it is the middle of winter in New Zealand right now. My wife and I plan to stay in New Zealand for a week after the conference ends to do some sightseeing. I just got a new Digital SLR camera that I'm hoping to try out so you may even see some pictures if you stay tuned.
Abstracts for my talks are [read]. Posted: Tue, Jun 23rd '09 |

Paul Papanek Stork In all the excitement about the establishment of a name and broad dates for release of the next version of SharePoint it would be easy to overlook the upcoming release of a mere service pack. SP2 will be no exception and the Office Service Pack team just announced that the it will be available on April [read]. Posted: Thu, Apr 16th '09 |

I've got a NEW BLOG Address
Paul Papanek Stork The Cobbler's Kids are finally getting shoes!
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the people who work with technology are the last ones to have time to use it? Well that's the way its been for us at Mindsharp since the release of SharePoint 2007. None of us really liked the Blogging software we were using, but nobody had time to install and configure a new Blogging engine based on SharePoint 2007. Finally after more months than I would like to count we've finally had enough time to get our [read]. Posted: Sat, Feb 7th '09 |
SharePoint Best Practices Conference - February 2-4, 2009
Paul Papanek Stork I just got back from the second SharePoint Best Practices Conference, and if anything this was even better than the first. Of course the weather was wonderful. I left Cleveland on Sunday with it snowing and arrived in San Diego to sunny temperatures in the 70s. The hotel staff were terrific, the other speakers were knowledgeable, and there were lots of attendees looking for answers. I did two presentations and promised that I would post my slides as soon as I got home. They'll also be comin [read]. Posted: Sat, Feb 7th '09 |

Adding Custom Web Part Page Templates
Paul Papanek Stork I was recently asked whether it was possible to add custom Web Part Page templates to the Create page in SharePoint 2007 or whether the interface was limited to the eight existing Web Part Pages and required you to replace one of those. I knew this was possible in SharePoint 2003 and that there was an MSDN article entitled Creating Custom Web Part Page Templates for Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies that explained how to do it. But since I had never tried it in 2007 I decided to i [read]. Posted: Tue, Aug 19th '08 |

I Love Cleveland Winters....
Paul Papanek Stork Living in Cleveland is always fun, but sometimes winters here can get interesting. This weekend is no exception. On Friday morning when I went out to run some errands at 10:00AM we had NO SNOW. The following picture was taken at 8:00 AM this morning.
That's right. The official details are about 17” of snow in about 15 hours. The last time we had snow like this was LAST Easter. But that was only 16” of snow. Oh yeah and this week, its supposed to reach 50 degrees by Thursday [read]. Posted: Sun, Mar 9th '08 |
