Packing My Bags for TechEd North America

I'm packing my bags and getting ready to fly to TechEd North America 2010. This year it's in New Orleans: 7th to 10th June. It's not my first time to visit New Orleans. I was there in February 2000 for the Microsoft Technical Trainer's Conference and then again in October 2003 for the Microsoft World Wide Partner Conference. But it has been a while, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Well spring in the UK looks like it's here. It's a brilliant day today, blue skies and the sun is wonderfully warm – well at least by UK standards – and it looks like I'm not the only one to like April (my birthday's is this month). It's going to be an amazing month for SharePoint 2010 as well. SharePoint 2010 will RTM this month, with a launch date of May 12th. Penny Coventry I really am getting excited about the amount of information now available about Search and SharePoint.
SharePoint Server 2007 was a powerful search engine when it RTM'd back in November 2006, since then Microsoft have purchased FAST; and Microsoft Search Server (MSS) 2008 and SharePoint Server 2008 Express (MSSX) have been released. The extra functionality avaliable in MSS can be introduced into SharePoint Server 2007, when you install the Infrastructure Update.

Microsoft talks about Hotfixes, Service Packs and Project 14
Penny Coventry Yesterday I listened to an excellent webcast organised by the Microsoft Project User Group (MPUG). Ludovic Hauduc, the General Manager of Microsoft Office Project, discussed hotfixes, service packs, the infrastructure update and Project 14. Much of what he said was also relevant to other Office products such as Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and SharePoint Server (MOSS). Penny Coventry Well I'm soo.. excited. I attended PDC back in 2005 and the information I learnt there was a great basis for the next three years, so I have great expectation on this year's event - PDC 2008 in LA.

Excel 2007 can now do two-way sync to a SharePoint List
Penny Coventry In Excel 2003 you were able to sync amendments both from a Excel 2003 spreadsheet to a SharePoint List and from a SharePoint List to an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. But in Excel 2007 this is no longer the case... Well it was until Microsoft released an Excel 2007 Add-in. This is a must install if you are upgrading to Office 2007 from Office 2003, otherwise your users will cry.

SharePoint Upgrade - Prescan - content Migration
Penny Coventry I recently received a query concerning the SharePoint content migration upgrade approach. The customer was attempting to attach the databases to a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 installation. They then tried to run prescan.exe, which complained, stating that they must have Windows SharePoint Services v2 (WSSv2) installed.
