Theses inbuilt rules are quite limited so below you will find many more that you can add.  To access the rules from the deployment workbench Right click your deployment share and choose properties the second tab (Rules) will show you the limited built in rules. SharePoint and Tech Blog
Over the last few weeks we have completed quite a few installs of SharePoint 2010 and one of the questions we get asked time and time again is what is required to run SharePoint 2010, so I thought through this post I would write down exactly what is needed so I can point customers to this blog post and they would then have a reference chart of what is needed in their environment. Streaming media with SharePoint 2010 using ASX files
SharePoint and Tech Blog
I have previously written a series of articles on how we stream media files and deliver these through SharePoint (Part 1 , Part 2 , and Part 3)  but these are all based in our MOSS 2007 environment now that we are moving over to SharePoint 2010 I thought I would give you a heads up on ASX files and 2010.  We were horrified to find that when we click on an ASX file in SharePoint 2010 it did not stream the file as in 2007 but only gave us the option to save or cancel as illustrated below Now [read].

The other day one of my favourite blog writers The Angry Technician wrote an article called ‘How to get me to ignore your quote’ so I thought I would take the opportunity to balance the scales slightly with a post on a great supplier in the shape of IC Technology LTD.  We have been using this company for about five years now and the help and support that we receive is second to none which is why they get so much repeat business from Twynham and I also recommend them to anybody interested in [read].

Microsoft Expression Sketchflow
SharePoint and Tech Blog
At Twynham we always find the best way to start a new SharePoint project is to get it drawn out, preferably by the end user. This can come back to us in many forms from a pencil and paper sketch through to a fully blown Visio diagram. I stumbled across this video that shows off Expression SketchFlow, it does look really really good for rapidly prototyping sites or applications/web parts. This should help us pin down exactly what the end user wants and avoid all those ‘tweaks’ that t [read].

One of the big outcry’s in the Exchange world was with the release of Exchange 2007 and Server 2008 and the omission of the ability to backup and flush your Exchange logs, this meant that a lot of Exchange admins had to go out and purchase a 3rd party backup tool, with previous versions of Exchange and Windows server all backups could be done with the tools built into windows, but this was taken away, but now I am pleased to say that this feature is now available again.  We actually went o [read].

Out of the Box Web Analytics Web Part
SharePoint and Tech Blog
One of the most popular post I have written recently is the Web Analytics Reports in SharePoint 2010 so I thought I would just write a quick follow up on another component to the built web analytics side of SharePoint 2010, and that is the OOTB (out of the box) web part for displaying the results on a dashboard page. This webpart is quite limited as compared to the full reports you can only see 3 sections of the reports that is:- Most Viewed Content, Most Frequent Site Search Queries or Most Fr [read].

Easy Access To STSADM
SharePoint and Tech Blog
Hands up who is fed up with navigating to “c:\program files\common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\bin\” just to use the STSADM tool?  Well there is an easier way. Back in the day I used to use DOS “yes I am that old” Well I used to use Path statements in my autoexec.bat files which meant that I could run command line tools from anywhere in the file system. Now you can also do this in modern server systems by going to System properties – Environment Variables and the [read].

SharePoint 2010 with a virtual SQL 2008 database. Will it perform?
SharePoint and Tech Blog
Many people have many different opinions on this subject. Is it wise to virtualise SQL? I think it is fine. I was once not so sure but visiting SharePoint best practices conference last year as well as a data management event I now feel pretty confident. Also with our beast of a hyper-v setup I can have more RAM in a virtual SQL box than I could ever dream of in a physical server! So on to SharePoint 2010.  I wrote a couple of simle SQL scripts just to make the database server do some work and [read].

Finding Stale Accounts in Active Directory
SharePoint and Tech Blog
I have been having a Twitter conversation with Martin Byford-Rew the IT Manager at Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough and other about finding stale accounts in active directory, now I do not have that concern as I use an AD tools which runs overnight and creates or archives accounts as pupils, staff and parents arrive at or leave Twynham, but more of that in a later post.  Before we used the current AD tools I also had the same problem with keeping Active Directory tidy and up to date the [read].

SharePoint 2010 Web Apps, Where’s the Save Button
SharePoint and Tech Blog
I have been using SharePoint 2010 for quite a while now but it was only yesterday that I tried the Excel, PowerPoint and Onenote web apps having limited myself to using the Word web apps all throughout our testing phase of our SharePoint 2010 deployment.  So it was only when I was using these apps that I noticed that there is no save button but they save dynamically as you use them. So for anyone else that cannot find the save button please see the images below. Filed under: Sharepoint 201 [read].

Hyper V Cluster Setup Part 3
SharePoint and Tech Blog
This is the third part of the HyperV cluster setup with the help of Alan Richards in this video Alan shows how to create the Cluster shared volume, This clustered shared volume in server 2008 R2 was the main reason that I wanted to use HyperV as with this we can live migrate virtual machines and we obviously have fault tolerance on our cluster. SharePoint and Tech Blog
At Twynham we use mindJets Mind Manager for students and staff but today I started seeing in Twitter tweets for Mind manager for SharePoint so I checked out the site and found the specs and not one mention of SharePoint 2010 which is very understandable, but I thought I would download the trial and check to see if it does work on our SharePoint 2010 demo site, and I am very pleased to be able to report that it works fine as you can see from the image below it maps SharePoint 2010 sites and ret [read].

Hyper V Cluster Setup Part 1
SharePoint and Tech Blog
A while ago I started writing some posts on our HyperV setup with the intention of writing more on how we setup our HyperV cluster; well I was beaten to that by a friend and fellow network manager in education Alan Richards from Westhatch School. Now myself and Alan have a friendly rivalry when it comes to deployments Alan beat me with his Windows 7 rollout and I beat him with my HyperV cluster and I will beat Alan with our SharePoint 2010 rollout.  But I found out yesterday that Alan has done [read].

XSLT get email address from person field
SharePoint and Tech Blog
In this brief post I will show you how to use xslt to get someone’s email address from the people picker in a SharePoint list. Before I begin I must give credit to David Botschinsky who I met at the BETT show in January. He came to me and asked about getting the email address of a person from the person lookup field in a list – He wanted to achieve this purely through the browser if possible with no code. I had a quick think and couldn’t find a way. I then received an email fro [read].

Blocking Windows Update KB976002

How To Change The maximum file size Upload in SharePoint 2010

SharePoint 2010 Drop Off Library
SharePoint and Tech Blog
Another new feature you may have seen in SharePoint 2010 is the drop folder this is basically a way to set up one folder for users to upload files to and it will automatically route the files to the appropriate locations that you have previously setup.    So how do we get this to work? Well it does need some setting up and the routing rules do need some configuring but well worth the effort. First of all from your site go to Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Manage Site Features and ac [read].

At Twynham it has always been our ambition to deliver all of our resources through SharePoint so with the media files that was always high on the agenda.
