How much would you trust Microsoft Azure?
Thuan Nguyen
If you are working with Microsoft Cloud sometimes, you may have heard about Microsoft Trust Center where Microsoft proves to its customers a trustworthy platform. From the center, Microsoft shows not only compliance achievement but also security privacy and its practices. To Microsoft Azure specifically, the Trust Center is here Microsoft seems to achieve industrial compliance in every big market it targets to. From the compliance offering list, you can filter your country to see if any. Micro [read].

Protecting your Azure Virtual Machine with Microsoft Antimalware
Thuan Nguyen
The world of virus and malware are unpredictable. There are many historically stories about the virus for example Conflicker or Nimda which damaged hugely to hijacked network. Some of the actions such a malware does is: Slow down your virtual machine Stop some critical services on your virtual machine Automatically attack other virtual machines in the same network Be a backdoor sending message and sensitive information to attacker Such a malware can be very dangerous when infecting to your vir [read].

Security shared responsibility in Azure IaaS
Thuan Nguyen
Cloud computing is heterogeneously broad, relating to variety of software services to hardware infrastructure. Nevertheless, people are still following the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), defining three service models: Software as a Service (SaaS): this is the model when cloud consumer has access to cloud service provider’s software from the Internet. An example of the software is Microsoft Office 365, which offer you set of business productivity services including [read].

Quick notes about self-signed certificate with Point-to-Site Azure VPN
Thuan Nguyen
Connecting directly through RDP to your system is not recommended in a practical security. It is because the RDP connection goes through the Internet which is weak. To add more extra layer of security, you should set up a jump virtual machine (as known as bastion host) which connects privately to your system via Point-to-site VPN. The illustration below shows you the setup target. In this setup, there is a virtual machine which resides in a different virtual network to connect to your private ne [read].

Four security principles I believe myself
Thuan Nguyen
Last month at the Global Azure Bootcamp 2017 in Microsoft Singapore, I presented with folks several security practices along with applying defense in depth strategy to secure your Azure IaaS deployment. In the presentation, I shared four security principles I have found myself during the time working with computer. I’m writing a book which covers applying Defense in Depth strategy in an Azure IaaS deployment. This book also provides you hands-on lab to deploy a secure SharePoint system on [read].

My own three letters to be successful in IT managed services
Thuan Nguyen
I got a question today morning asking me on how to measure success in IT managed services. Well I never thought of myself such a measurement. Perhaps the measurement would be keeping service level availability and agreement as good as possible. It also could be making your customer be happy. That sounds the ultimate objective of every business we do doesn’t that? I then sat down alone, grabbing a coffee and started musing around the measurement. I started working with IT managed services 6 [read].

Design a secure Azure IaaS – Part 1
Thuan Nguyen
Security has never been stopped being a hot topic in the digital transformation era. We all have heard a lot about digital transformation stuffs. Everything is going to have Internet connection which open many more doors for attacker to look into grabbing your data. Cloud transformation today is not new, it’s a strategy every organization is planning for. However the transformation to the cloud does not mean everything is going to be fully protected.  The responsibility of information se [read].

Microsoft Invitation makes my browser look compromised?
Thuan Nguyen
We all know when granting permission to an account, this account will receive an invitation email that link to the Microsoft Invitation page. Today when doing some stuffs of authorization, I realized that Microsoft would make something *perhaps not correct* to make people feel scary. Look at the bottom would you be surprised because the email was sent from Microsoft invites@microsoft.com and the URL is https://invitations.microsoft.com/redeem/?tenant=?. Click Learn more, I’m going to be [read].

Enable Multi-factor authentication on the Azure Management Portal
Thuan Nguyen
Multi-factor authentication means by its name, giving one more step of authentication to protect your account.  The authentication step can be a time-based one-time password sent from a cloud authentication provider such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator. The authentication step can also be a one-time code generated from an immediate authentication server sent to your email or your mobile phone in form of SMS message. Sometimes you can see it in form of biology i.e. fingerprint. [read].

What is securitydata resource group in Microsoft Azure?
Thuan Nguyen
If you happen to see a strange securitydata resource group in your Azure subscription, you would be pretty much surprised what the heck it is. You would be angry on someone in your cloud team if the Azure subscription is shared to every member. Even you think of the subscription being hacked by somebody else then you would delete this resource group then change your password. Congrats on having a real security awareness which has to be required today in the digital transformation. I’ve r [read].

3 obstacles in building a learning organization
Thuan Nguyen
You may find so many articles over the Internet explaining what learning organization is and how to build it. Different articles would give different views on learning organization. To me, learning organization is simply to build a sharing culture in an organization, where knowledge and experience are continuously acquired and exchanged. I got a few questions privately yesterday regarding some obstacles around building a learning organization after posting my status on LinkedIn as below: Buildin [read].

Guideline to hardening your SharePoint 2013 against HPE WebInspect
Thuan Nguyen
I’ve written many articles on the topic of security with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 in which I shared my experience and lesson learnt during my time working with government agencies where my duties were to make sure their SharePoint 2013 farm as secure & stable as possible. Such a duty sounds challenging because SharePoint is a platform containing number of different components that you cannot just break down to implement something. Part of my role out there, I have to make sure [read].

I will be speaking at Singapore Global Azure Bootcamp 2017
Thuan Nguyen
Last year I participated in Singapore Global Azure Bootcamp 2016 as a speaker, talking about planning and deploying SharePoint 2013 on Microsoft Azure. This year should not be a difference from my speaking engagement perspective, as I will also be speaking at the Singapore Global Azure Bootcamp 2017 in Microsoft Singapore. This year is not going to be SharePoint deployment on Microsoft Azure as last time, but the topic is much more interesting I believe so. I will be talking about security princ [read].

Quick thought on the UX/UI perspective in Azure Resource Management
Thuan Nguyen
I’m not an experienced UX/UI designer absolutely but I seem to be addicted to talking about how to make end users life easier on software with UX/UI tips & tricks. I do care about UX/UI for my past start-up products built on top of Microsoft SharePoint and Office 365. In my head, this is my first priority and one of the key successes. If you have been following my blog series regarding SharePoint workflow, you probably know how much of my awareness for the UX/UI which was post Four go [read].

Take care of your node.ini in SharePoint Server 2013 Search
Thuan Nguyen
Restarting a virtual machine does not give me a guarantee as always because I’ve encountered many cases in which something went wrong after restarting. One of the Search in my customers’ SharePoint 2013 farm recently got several errors on its component after a SharePoint virtual machine running a set of Search components was restarted.  At least Content Processing, Analytics Processing, Query Processing and Index Partition have a red triangle icon which you wish not to see in your l [read].

Been with SharePoint for 5 years as a developer, what to do next?
Thuan Nguyen
I’ve recently had a good short conversation which a senior SharePoint developers, having worked more than 5 years in SharePoint area. He shared with me that he found SharePoint really challenging and really wanted to master it. It’s pretty difficult to him to have deep understanding about SharePoint plus update about this emerging technology. He came to ask me my idea on what to do next to step up his experience in SharePoint development. What I’ve been realizing so far when ap [read].

Application role in MinRole is also acting like front-end role
Thuan Nguyen
This post is not going to introduce what MinRole in SharePoint 2016 is. You are better to get it from massive number of articles written by SharePoint experts in the community. Personally MinRole is only helpful to those who are not familiar with designing and administering medium to large farm. When Microsoft says “Hey you only need to select the role this server is going to play!” then you feel like you are going to be an unoccupied SharePoint administrator perhaps because MinRole [read].

Pay-As-You-Go on Azure is no longer available as of Feb 1, 2017

Richard Smith, Microsoft’s General Manager in Commercial Licensing sector just announced the cancellation of Pay-As-You-Go model in Azure for new customers. They have to go through Microsoft certified Cloud Service Provider programme. Existing customers shall still be able to use Pay-As-You-Go through MPSA (Microsoft Products and Services Agreement) said by Richard. Conversational Bot would let your business go down
Thuan Nguyen
Believe me or not, you are perhaps going to get into the era of AI (aka artificial intelligence). It is not a digital transformation you have heard over the Internet. It’s personally an intelligence transformation when your computer *would* understand you, as known as computer vision. One of the computer visions that folks pay pretty much attention to the development is conversational agent. Unless you like to call chatbot. Migrate a large file share to SharePoint within a short duration
Thuan Nguyen
You would be pretty much looking forward to an approach to migrate a large file share to SharePoint thanks to the article’s title. Unfortunately, this article is not going to cover that. Migrating a large file share to SharePoint consists of a good process of both business and technical, including information classification, scalable architecture, planning information architecture to data migration. Hence, I’m not going to write so much about that here in this article. As SharePoint is a pro [read].

Azure AD Application Proxy does not support WebSocket protocol
Thuan Nguyen
If you are familiar with Web Application Proxy in Windows Server 2012/2016, Azure AD Application Proxy should not be your surprise. Microsoft builds it to allow you to securely set up a remote access to your application which you do not want to publish over the Internet. It also helps you achieve single sign-on (SSO) as well. Azure AD Application Proxy acts like a reverse proxy in the language of network & computer security. For any sensitive-classified system you do not allow to access dire [read].
