SharePoint Unit Testing Guidance and Typemock
Tom Resing Back in August, 21apps blog featured an article highlighting the Microsoft Patterns & Practices Guidance on SharePoint. It's an excellent resource. One of the first things on their list is Unit Testing. Andrew also highlights their video on unit testing with a third party product called Typemock Isolator, read more below.
Since that time, a number of other developments have occurred.
The SharePoint TypeMock Wrapper on Codeplex had a September 21 – 2008 release

Followup to SharePoint Contacts List on a Map from Google
Tom Resing In the Mapping Part 2 Comments, I received two questions I've been meaning to get back to.
Can you do this if your list has latitude and longitude?
How do you add the name to the popup?
Latitude and Longitude
The first step in modifying my example for latitude and longitude is adding the fields.
First I go to List Settings:
Then I create the latitude column:
Repeat for Longitude.
After creating a Collection on maps.live.com with my contact cities, I exported it to KML to find the latitude [read]. Posted: Wed, Dec 24th '08 |
Windows SharePoint Services 4.0 named and breaking changes
Tom Resing In the first vNext news since my SharePoint 2010 post, Microsoft has identified Windows SharePoint Service 4.0 by name in a CustomListView knowledge base article. In addition, the Pre-Upgrade Checker that links to the Knowledge Base Article naming the new version identifies a number of breaking changes.
Breaking Changes
Avoid Custom List Views
Gary Lapointe's analysis suggests avoiding custom list views in Features as they may break.

Number 69 on Joel Oleson’s Twitter List
Tom Resing I'm number 69 on the Top 100 SharePoint Twitters! It's ironic because my feedburner stats show most of my SharePoint Blog traffic coming from twitter. Really, twitter has been the best way to get the word out about my SharePoint content and I'm a happy user. I also enjoy following my younger brother and some friends and automatically updating my Facebook status through Twitter. So overall, I'd be happy even if I didn't make the list.
My overall twInfluence may be small, but as SharePoint Twitt [read]. Posted: Sat, Dec 20th '08 |
Custom Field Type Webcast from San Antonio SharePoint User Group
Tom Resing Travis Lingenfelder gave a presentation today by Live Meeting for the San Antonio SharePoint User Group in the place of a December meeting at a physical location. He explained and demoed the Regular Expression Validator example from Todd Bleeker's SharePoint Development Book. I noticed Travis was recording, so hopefully we can make it available to those who could not attend.

Two Topics: SharePoint Hands On Labs and SharePointReview.com
Tom Resing If you haven't gotten a chance to check out the recently updated Windows SharePoint Services Hands on Labs, you might be interested in their recent integration with Visual Studio 2008. Not only is it integrated with the new version of VS, it integrates with the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Tools: Visual Studio 2008 Extensions. Very cool and a great introduction to what is new in both updates! Take advantage of the Virtual Labs, Mike Walsh has the best list. If you go the local development mac [read]. SharePoint 14, SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2012. The next version is a long way off by any name
Tom Resing It's been almost two years since the SharePoint 2007 technologies were released. With Windows 7 plans solidifying, what do we know about the next versions of Office and SharePoint?
Very Little Detail on the Web
From what I can find on the web, relatively nothing. The last official word I heard was from Bill Gates himself in Redmond. I was in the room next door when he talked about Improvements to the List Architecture, but revealed little else. And I could find nothing else official. Pe [read]. Posted: Mon, Oct 27th '08 |
